WELCOME TO THE NEWFRAC CONFERENCE

The NewFrac Conference will take place in Porto, Portugal, from May 7th to 10th, 2024.

This conference is organized within the ITN Project NewFrac – New strategies for multifield fracture problems across scales in heterogeneous systems for Energy, Health and Transport – with the goal of bringing together the computational fracture mechanics community in a unique event, fostering exchange of knowledge, expertise and new ideas, departing from 4 plenary lectures from leading researchers in the fields of computational and multiscale fracture mechanics and from the contributions of the network’s 13 early-stage researchers and their supervisors from 7 internationally recognized research groups and 5 leading high-tech companies.

The NewFrac Conference is thus expected to create a scientific space to present, discuss and develop recent investigations and it is open to contributed talks from any research topics on new computational strategies for fracture problems, with special focus on Phase Field models for fracture and Finite Fracture Mechanics. Scientists and engineers from all fields of computational fracture mechanics are encouraged to attend the conference, benefiting from a technical program of excellence throughout 4 days of stimulating scientific discussions and unforgettable cultural and gastronomical experiences in the beautiful city of Porto.

And since this conference results from a doctoral training network, early-stage researchers and students are expected to be an important share of the NewFrac Conference. Thus, a number of fellowships for students attending the Conference will be offered by the network. In addition, a committee made by all the NewFrac supervisors will award the best student presentation to acknowledge students who show potential for outstanding scientific achievements in the fields of computational and multiscale fracture mechanics.
