Workshop-1 was a total success!!

NewFrac brought together 38 international participants for its first face-to-face event, Workshop-1

After months of uncertainty and instability, the first project workshop was finally scheduled face-to-face for October 2021.

“New Strategies in Computational Fracture Mechanics” tried to boost the development of new strategies in Computational Fracture Mechanics, especially those based on Phase Field and Finite Fracture Mechanics.

The main objective of the NewFrac-1 Workshop and the main reason to fight for its celebration in person, was to bring all ESRs and their supervisors together and involve them in the NEWFRAC network, to get their strong commitment to the project objectives and to foster multiple interactions and collaborations among them and with students and scientists outside the project in the same field as well as to promote exchange with young researchers from industry and academia.

It was a total success!!

NewFrac brought together 38 international participants for its first face-to-face event.

A great success were invited lectures. Prof. Blaise Bourdin from McMaster University, Canada participated remotly with a Lecture on Phase Field models of fracture, Dr. Aurélien Doitrand from Université de Lyon, France, gave a keynote lecture on Dialogue between Finite Fracture Mechanics and Phase field approach for brittle fracture and Dr. Emilio Martínez Pañeda from Imperial College London, UK, gave a keynote lecture on Multi Physics Phase Field Modelling of Fracture.

During Workshop 1, industrial visits were organised to important companies in the sector in Seville and Madrid. All of them made great efforts in organisation and took thorough preventive measures at all times, for which the NewFrac project is very grateful to them.

FIDAMC, as beneficiarie of the project, coordinate the second part of the event in Madrid and a full day visit to their facilities with a laminating practice. An amazing experience for the students!

The objetives of workshop-1 were achieved, students had a great first experience participating in a conference and getting to know each other better.
